Publisher’s Message Spring 2013 Second Anniversary Issue

 

As we kick off year three, I noticed that some online journals have ceased publication and a few others have collaborated or affiliated with another publication.  As an independent online publication, we face many of the same pressures as other entities.  aaduna will continue as an independent voice for new, emerging and established artists whose voices exalt the complexities and nuances of diverse and pluralistic societies and those ongoing conflicts inherent in the human psyche.  In addition, we are still having fun!

We welcome two new contributing editors to our community.  Tim Ogene will serve as contributing editor of poetry and Pamela Havens will tackle a wide variety of contributing editor duties.  Tim is already complementing aaduna’s perspective and stance on spoken word and offers some sound advice to this vibrant cohort of poets and spoken word artists.  Pam will further enhance the work of writers.  She will strengthen how their work is presented to our readership with a grace and understatement that marks her quiet yet forceful personality.

We had an extremely successful Harriet Tubman Centennial as we presented Cyd Charisse Fulton’s original poems written to celebrate Tubman’s legacy and herstory.  We re-visited Hudson County Community College’s Journal Square campus in Jersey City, NJ with Tara Thierry, Olivia Magdelene, D.D. and Cyd Charisse Fulton and are planning to present Raymond Nat Turner in May as part of the AME Zion’s Church annual pilgrimage to the Tubman Home site in Auburn, NY.

We give a salute to Poets & Writers and the Readings and Workshops program for their support.  We are very grateful to the Sovereign Foundation.  I trust we have represented the intentions and targeted mission of our funding sources and hope for future collaborations.   

This issue continues the vibrancy and excitement of previous issues.  Enjoy the diverse poetry, a myriad collection of new voices and returning aaduna contributors, Christine Green and Cyd Fulton.  Savor playwright Lindsey Ferrentino’s short story, as well as the stories of Ronald Gauthier, and then patiently wait for the re-opening of all the galleries as part of the summer 2013 issue!

As 2012 transitioned to 2013, opportunities came about that aaduna grasped.  This rest of 2013 will challenge us.  We need your financial assistance to enable us to upgrade the website and mount public readings.  Your donation is tax-exempt and will enhance what and how we do things.  Your gift will not be too small or too large.
